Tips for writing a purchasing & supply specific CV
There are plenty of websites which can help you with generic CV writing skills but for Purchasing specific CV’s we would advise the following:-
-
Listing categories and commodities in which you have experience of procuring, E.g. which raw materials? What type of services?
-
Detailing which geographical regions you have experience of sourcing from, i.e. UK, Far East, Eastern Europe, USA
-
Including spend values, both total and per category/ commodity if possible
-
Including any cost savings you have made in either percentage or actual terms
-
Detailing your experience of supplier management, particularly any under-performing suppliers
-
Explaining your experience of running tenders and of drafting commercial agreements/ trading terms etc
-
Detailing your relationships with stakeholders
The only other thing we would say is please submit your CV in Microsoft Word, in as simple a format as possible. CV’s with tables, obscure fonts, images and photos etc look very pretty but our clients ask for our CV’s to look consistent. So all we end up doing is clearing all formatting and stripping CV’s down to text only. If you could submit it in a nice simple format (Arial 12 is our font of choice) it would save a lot of time and enable us to get your CV to our clients far more quickly!
